Helmut Wilhelm Carlsen founded the company in 1966. He was a pioneer in the field of dry bulk handling, inventing and developing many of the HW Carlsen dry bulk handling systems that are still in use around the world today.
HW Carlsen systems handle many million tons of dry bulk cargo per year. The business started with the land based dry bulk handling systems for the cement industry and expanded then into the maritime sector.
Land based systems are used at big silo terminals for loading ships, lorries or railcars.
Ship based systems are installed on large specially built cement carriers of over 40.000dwt,
small barges, supply vessels, floating terminals to deep-water drilling rigs.
There are well above 100 ships equipped with HW Carlsen loading and unloading systems.
HW Carlsen dry bulk systems have proven extremely reliable, easy to operate and to maintain.
HW Carlsen engineers continue to engineer and designing new systems aimed in particular for the dry bulk handling needs of the maritime sector.
Throughout its existence HW Carlsen has always retained its own name and designs, even when the ownership changed.
In mid 2007 nepers AG, a Swiss family investment company, took over from the previous owners upon their retirement.
The demand for dry bulk handling equipment is expected to grow according to most experts in the next few years. HW Carlsen has the commitment and the financial backing of the new owners to continue to create excellent dry bulk handling solutions for their customers.
